2021 SUPERVISOR BOOTCAMP

On August 26, 2021, the Probation Department had three staff graduated from Supervisor’s
Boot Camp, offered by the Employee’s University. This was a three (3) week program for
staff who wished to refresh and build their leadership skills. During the program, staff
learned about supervising a multi-generational workforce, navigating conflict, how to
develop and guide staff through relentless change.

Congratulations to Administrative Officer Professional (AOP) Monica Castillo and Senior
Administrative Office Professionals (Sr AOP) Donald Heath and Tina Centeno for
participating and networking with individuals from other departments and becoming more
effective leaders.

2021 CAPIA SOUTHERN REGION AWARDS

Congratulations to Senior Deputy Probation Officer (Sr. DPO) Jerry Gerue and Senior
Juvenile Institutions Officer (Sr. JIO) Jorge Ruvalcaba who were selected as the Santa
Barbara California Association of Probation Institutions Administrators for outstanding
performance.

Sr. DPO Gerue received the CAPIA Outstanding Supervisor Award for sharing the 3D
printing process and remote controlled car building and maintenance with youth at the
Juvenile Justice Center (JJC). His efforts demonstrate his commitment to enhancing the
imagination, hope, and motivation for youth.

Sr. JIO Ruvalcaba was selected for the CAPIA Outstanding Line Staff Award for his
initiative in fulfilling the role as a lead officer with regard to staff development, intake
duties, and supervision. His optimism and high level of engagement is greatly
appreciated.

The Department is pleased to acknowledge Sr. DPO Gerue and Sr. JIO Ruvalcaba for their
notable achievements.
